Princess plucking...

Princess has been plucking her feathers a tiny bit in the back. Wish she wouldn't do that. Seems the more attention I give her the less she plucks. However, she was fine when I went away for a long while in the winter, but plucked like a bald eagle when I went away for a long time last summer. Go figure. Wish she wouldn't do that.

Do you have any ideas as to what kind of toys would be good? It's not a skin problem because I recently had a vet check them out. He said it was some kind of hormonal/behavior thing.

toys. hmm...sorry for not responding sooner.i dont know.. whats good. i guess it depends on the bird.stringy beady things tend to work.. do some looking up online and maybe you can make your own.certain materials arent good for them, so a natural.. like all cotton rope? i think is what you need.do some research, or ask at a pet store that specializes in birds!another thing thats good is putting in a branch from a tree with leaves and everything on it. but once again you have to look it up cause certain types of trees arent good for them?!what kind of bird do you have?!looks like an african grey creature on your icon. if thats the type of bird you have? i know my dad sometimes gives the parrots branches. and kujo (an some sort of grey, not an african grey but the same family, theyre a bit smaller and their tails arent quite as red as african greys) has a baby toy strapped to his cage. its one of those that you strap to a crib for a little baby that has things to pull at and makes noises but is really sturdy. he plays with that.one of our cockitiles plucks all his feathers out. but some toys helped. you need to switch them up every once and awhile or he gets bored with them...or she i mean.

it's a "behavioral problem" because you aren't spending enough time with him. maybe you should get him a mate or maybe even rethink keeping birds if you are going to be away for long periods of time frequently. if it is a single bird, you should be spending a minimum of an hour a day with it. they thrive on human interaction. if you can't spend that much time with your bird and you can't afford another bird for him to interact with then you should find him another home with people who will spend lots of time with him. just some friendly advice.
