New cage for Kelly and Romeo
Today mom and I went out and picked out a larger golden cage for Kelly the maroon-bellied conure and Romeo the budgie. I think that they will like this cage better than the last one mom bought last week, which was a bit too small. It's cute how the conure and budgie get along. Mom says sometimes they sit next to each other and even kiss. The woman at the pet shop where we got Kelly (where she was hand raised) was surprised. There was a really cute baby conure at the pet shop that I held. He was the same type of conure that my cousin has -- Captain (who I met this past weekend.) Parrots are such needy, cute little things -- like dogs. And every morning, Princess has been beating me to saying, "Hi Jo-Jo" when I unlift the cover off of the African Grey cage. Other than this, I made sure I put on the parrot rainforest CD for the parrots this morning when I was out. They respond so well to music, and even dance to rhythms. Jo-Jo really liked Phil Collin's "Easy Lover" and was clucking along with the beat. It was really cute.

When I was a child, one wall of my bedroom was always the "bird wall" - cages of birds, floor to ceiling. Macaws, cockatoos, lovebirds, parrots, cockatiels, mynahs, etc. I adore birds. Can't wait until my girls are old enough that I feel safe having one for a pet. The 9-yr-old would be fine, but past [traumatic] experience has taught me that 3-yr-olds and fragile birdies are a poor match.Tempted to get a parrot, though - big enough to defend itself against a curious toddler who hasn't learned about mutual respect and the concept that animals have feelings and are not toys.
