Parrot Food
I noticed that the African Greys love Zu Preem pellet food for a change (especially "P") over Pretty Bird. "P" goes apes over that pellet formulation. Kelly the conure also loves it. Double J seems to enjoy Pretty Bird. However, today I gave her the Zu Preem and Pretty Bird mix. Let's see how much she will enjoy that. I think that being raised on Pretty Bird, Jo-Jo the senegal parrot, and Big Bird the African Grey both seem to enjoy that formulation. "P" just loves Zu Preem, however. She always grabs the banana like bits out of it to eat first So does Kelly.Interesting.

Princess -- the bald chicken
Princess parrot plucked all of her front and some of her back feathers off. Arrggghh!!!! Why do African Grey parrots do this, it's SO frustrating!!!!!!!!!! I even went out the other weekend to buy all new toys to help remedy the situation, but she still didn't let them grow back. The last time she did this was when I moved to London for a summer college study abroad program. However when I came back she grew them back.Argh! :( If she keeps it up, she will look like a purdue chicken, instead of a parrot, which I certainly won't will be the case.

Princess Is Plucking Her Feathers :(
I came home Friday to the site of a P with plucked feathers. :( On her belly region and some on her back and I was really upset. I completely washed the entire cage wondering why she is doing it and how it can be stopped before she ends up looking like B -- the Purdue Chicken! :(

Macaw and Jo-Jo bit mom
Saw a Macaw in the 3rd floor of the science academy yesterday. Jo-Jo bit mom last month. She just walked by the cage and got bit! So I pushed the cage back so she has less access to people walking by.

New cage for Kelly and Romeo
Today mom and I went out and picked out a larger golden cage for Kelly the maroon-bellied conure and Romeo the budgie. I think that they will like this cage better than the last one mom bought last week, which was a bit too small. It's cute how the conure and budgie get along. Mom says sometimes they sit next to each other and even kiss. The woman at the pet shop where we got Kelly (where she was hand raised) was surprised. There was a really cute baby conure at the pet shop that I held. He was the same type of conure that my cousin has -- Captain (who I met this past weekend.) Parrots are such needy, cute little things -- like dogs. And every morning, Princess has been beating me to saying, "Hi Jo-Jo" when I unlift the cover off of the African Grey cage. Other than this, I made sure I put on the parrot rainforest CD for the parrots this morning when I was out. They respond so well to music, and even dance to rhythms. Jo-Jo really liked Phil Collin's "Easy Lover" and was clucking along with the beat. It was really cute.

Jo-Jo bit dad yesterday
Jo-Jo my Senegal parrot bit my dad in the arm yesterday. She really doesn't seem to like men. Dad was out by the slider feeding peanuts to the squirrels, where Jo-Jo's cage is positioned. And Jo-Jo took a nip out of him. When I first bought Jo-Jo 8 years ago, the original owner (who was a woman) told me that she didn't like men and that she didn't like her husband. It seems like everytime a man comes into the room and I am holding Jo-Jo she is upset. And then she will start getting nippy with me. Jo-Jo is a female and was hand raised by a woman, so maybe this had something to do with her preferred bonding with women. I think it's interesting. But I just wish she wouldn't have bit my dad like she did. The skin on his arm was peeled back a bit because he is 79 and his skin is thin. :( Poor dad. Poor Jo-Jo. Maybe I should move her cage.I can hear spring birds chirping outside right now. It's so relaxing.
Princess plucking...
Princess has been plucking her feathers a tiny bit in the back. Wish she wouldn't do that. Seems the more attention I give her the less she plucks. However, she was fine when I went away for a long while in the winter, but plucked like a bald eagle when I went away for a long time last summer. Go figure. Wish she wouldn't do that.

Princess the parrot sounds like E.T.
Princess said, "I love you" today. Sometimes she sounds like E.T. when she talks. It is cute.

My parrots rule!
Princess has started doing this new thing that she used to let me do. She is once again putting her head down to let me rub it. I think it is SO CUTE. She likes getting attention and has such a much less reserved personality as compared to Big Bird!
